Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of our most frequently asked quesitons.  If your quesiton isn't answered below, please feel free to reach out by sending us a message.

1. Do you take insurance?

The Speech Loft is currently not in-network with any insurance provider. You have the option receiving a superbill at the end of each month outlining services rendered.  You can then submit to your insurance for reimbursement.  Please note that we are a fee for service company and payment is due at the time services are rendered.

2. What are the benefits of private pay?

Choosing private pay services means therapy can be fully tailored to your child’s unique needs. Your child’s goals, session length, and frequency are determined by what’s best for them—not by insurance restrictions.  Billing is always clear and straightforward, so you’ll never be caught off guard with unexpected charges.

3. How do I know if my child needs therapy?

Have you, your pediatrician, your child's daycare provider/teacher or another important person in your child's life expressed concerns about his/her communication?  If you answered yes, then your child may need speech therapy services.  We always start with a comprehensive evaluation to determine if therapy services are warranted and use that evaluation to guide what services will look like.  Each child is unique & has unique needs. At The Speech Loft, we believe services should be customized to fit those unique needs.

4.  Should I "wait and see" if my child's speech/language catches up?

I don’t recommend a “wait and see” approach because if a child doesn’t catch up on their own, the gap between them and their peers with often widen. This can lead to increased  communication breakdowns and frustration as expectations grow. Early intervention gives us the opportunity to step in right away, equipping your child with the tools and support they need to build confidence and set the foundation for long-term academic success.

5. What do you mean by "neurodiversity-affirming" approach?

A neurodiversity-affirming approach means we recognize that neurological differences such as autism, ADHD, or other communication styles- are a natural and valuable part of human diversity.  Rather than focusing on "fixing" or eliminating differences, we highlight each child's strengths, interests, and unique way of learning.  Therapy and goals are guided by what is most meaningful & functional for your child and your family.

6.  What is play-based therapy?

Play-based speech therapy is a therapy approach that uses play as the main way to teach and practice communication skills. Instead of sitting at a desk with worksheets, children learn through activities that feel natural and fun—like building with blocks, playing pretend, using toys, games, or art.  The idea is that play is a child’s first language—it’s how they explore, interact, and make sense of the world. By weaving therapy goals into play, children are more engaged and motivated.  Play-based therapy also allows for skills acquired to be more easily generalized into their day-to-day life and routines.
